Who was ever satisfied to gain what seemed at first too much to expect? Prosperity is not some greedy prize, as people suppose; it is a paltry thing, and therefore satisfies no one. You believe your wants to be on a high level, because you are far away from them. But the man who has attained them finds them insignificant. If I am not mistaken, he is still seeking to climb.
